The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, NPMCN, has announced the investiture of Prof. Anthony Nnaemeka Ikefuna as its 24th President, marking a significant leadership transition for Nigeria’s foremost postgraduate medical training institution.

Prof. Ikefuna was elected at the College’s 137th Governing Board Meeting held on December 5, 2025. His formal investiture is scheduled for March 6, 2026, at the College’s headquarters in Ijanikin, Lagos.

A distinguished paediatrician and medical educator, Ikefuna is widely recognised for his contributions to specialist training and clinical research. He graduated from the University of Ibadan and completed his specialist training in Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. 

He became Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2011.

Within NPMCN, he previously served as Vice President and held key roles including Chairman, Secretary, Senate Member, and Chief Examiner in the Faculty of Paediatrics. 

He also chaired the Quality Assurance and Disciplinary Committees, contributing to examination reforms, accreditation standards, and fellowship credentialing processes.

Professor Ikefuna has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, supervised more than 70 Fellowship dissertations, and mentored several specialists who now occupy senior academic and clinical leadership roles across Nigeria.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, a Foundation Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.

The College’s management congratulated him on his investiture, expressing confidence in his leadership to strengthen specialist medical education, quality assurance, and professional excellence in Nigeria’s evolving healthcare landscape.
