FirstBank of Nigeria Limited, West Africa’s premier financial institution and leading driver of financial inclusion, has announced the commencement of its 2025 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, CR&S, Week, scheduled for October 27 – November 1, 2025.

Now in its ninth year, the weeklong event reaffirms FirstBank’s enduring commitment to community empowerment, environmental stewardship, and the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Anchored on the theme ‘Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness’ (SPARK), this year’s campaign builds on the Bank’s legacy of social impact through kindness, sustainability, and inclusive growth. The initiative mobilises staff across the FirstBank Group — spanning Nigeria, the UK, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, DRC, Guinea, Ghana, and Senegal — to dedicate time and resources toward community-focused causes aligned with the Bank’s sustainability pillars.

Speaking ahead of the event, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, FirstBank, said: “CR&S Week is a call to action. It’s about showing up for humanity, being kind to one another, and proving that even the smallest act can ripple into lasting change. At FirstBank, we believe kindness is a currency that never loses value.”

As part of this year’s activities, FirstBank will plant 20,000 trees in partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) — completing its pledge to plant 50,000 trees by 2025 in support of Nigeria’s 2060 decarbonisation agenda. Over the past two years, the Bank has already achieved 31,000 trees, reinforcing its leadership in climate action and carbon footprint reduction.

In addition, the Bank will collaborate with Borno and Katsina States to provide medical interventions for women living with Vesicovaginal Fistula, VVF, — including surgeries, post-care kits, and psychosocial support — further advancing SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and improving women’s health outcomes.

Throughout the week, employees will participate in kindness-themed webinars, school sensitisation sessions, and community outreach programmes across Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. These activities will culminate in visits to orphanages, internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, and charitable organisations, reinforcing the Bank’s philosophy of empathy-driven engagement.

Ijabiyi added: “Since 2017, our staff have gone the extra mile through the SPARK initiative, inspiring individuals and organisations to adopt kindness as a way of life. This movement is about building a compassionate society and a sustainable future.”

Since its inception, FirstBank’s CR&S Week has evolved into one of Africa’s most consistent corporate sustainability platforms, championing causes that uplift lives, protect the planet, and promote inclusive social and economic development.

From tree planting to women’s healthcare and youth mentorship, FirstBank continues to demonstrate that sustainability is not a side project — it is central to its identity as a responsible corporate citizen.
