Moniepoint Inc., Africa’s leading digital financial services provider, has graduated the second cohort of its flagship DreamDevs Bootcamp, reinforcing its commitment to developing world-class engineering talent and strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.

The graduation ceremony, held in Lagos under the theme, “Training Done! Demo Up!”, featured participants showcasing capstone projects built to real-world engineering standards, marking the culmination of an intensive nine-week training programme.

The initiative comes at a critical period for Africa’s technology ecosystem, where demand for experienced software engineers continues to outpace supply. Industry projections indicate that by 2030, the global shortage of software developers could reach 85 million, potentially resulting in economic losses estimated at $5.5 trillion.

Speaking at the event, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Moniepoint, Felix Ike, described the programme as a long-term investment in Nigeria’s technology future rather than a conventional recruitment initiative.

According to him, “DreamDevs is a structural investment in Nigeria’s digital economy, not a recruitment exercise, not a pipeline built solely to serve Moniepoint’s hiring needs.”

That said, we are proud that some graduates from our first cohort are already active members of our engineering team. It is proof that when young African engineers are given the right training and the right environment, they can compete at the highest level.”The nine-week curriculum was developed by Moniepoint’s Engineering Unit in collaboration with Semicolon and covered critical software engineering disciplines including Java Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Testing, MySQL, Spring Boot APIs, System Design, Docker, Messaging Queues, Frontend User Interface development, and Cloud Infrastructure.

Participants also received stipends and direct mentorship from experienced Moniepoint engineers, providing them with hands-on exposure to the production environment of one of Africa’s fastest-growing fintech companies.

During the Demo Day presentations, participants, grouped into nine teams, demonstrated innovative technology solutions across sectors such as real estate, healthcare, event management, food services, and agriculture, highlighting their ability to apply newly acquired skills to real-world challenges.Ike emphasized that engineering excellence requires deliberate investment and sustained commitment.

“Engineering excellence is not a naturally occurring phenomenon. It is a curated and intentionally built process that requires the right systems, the right resources and sufficient time to take hold.

“Building that process and making it accessible to the brightest young engineers on this continent is a responsibility we have chosen to own,” he said.

He noted that while Africa’s digital economy continues to attract significant global investment, the talent infrastructure needed to sustain long-term growth remains insufficient.

According to him, initiatives such as DreamDevs and Moniepoint’s broader capacity-building programmes across Nigerian public universities are designed to bridge that gap and create a sustainable pipeline of highly skilled engineering professionals.

“Africa’s digital economy is attracting significant global capital, yet the talent infrastructure required to sustain that growth remains underdeveloped.”

The DreamDevs Bootcamp and our other capacity-building initiatives across some of Nigeria’s public universities demonstrate Moniepoint’s commitment to addressing this challenge and creating opportunities for young African talent,” Ike stated. The programme also aligns with the Federal Government’s technology skills development agenda.

Moniepoint is a key sponsor of the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent, 3MTT,initiative, which seeks to equip millions of Nigerians with digital and technical skills. While the 3MTT programme focuses on developing technology talent at scale, Moniepoint said DreamDevs complements the initiative by providing specialised, industry-focused training and a pathway from foundational learning to employment opportunities within a world-class engineering environment.

Industry observers note that as Nigerian fintech companies continue to expand their digital infrastructure ambitions, investments in engineering talent development will become increasingly critical to sustaining innovation and competitiveness.

By strengthening the pipeline of software engineering talent, Moniepoint said it is contributing not only to its own growth ambitions but also to the broader development of Africa’s digital economy.

The company added that the success of the DreamDevs programme demonstrates the importance of private-sector-led interventions in addressing the continent’s engineering talent gap and preparing the next generation of technology leaders.
