The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, and its training arm, the Digital Bridge Institute, DBI, have launched a fresh drive to position Nigeria as a global hub for digital skills development through the transformation of the Institute into a world-class centre for research, innovation and policy leadership.
The initiative, unveiled at the inaugural meeting of DBI’s newly constituted Interim Governing Board in Abuja, forms part of efforts to equip Nigerians with globally competitive digital skills and accelerate the country’s transition to a knowledge-driven digital economy.
President and Chief Executive Officer of DBI, Mr. David Daser, said the Institute was embarking on a new phase of its transformation agenda aimed at making it Nigeria’s foremost institution for digital capacity development and a globally recognised centre of excellence.
According to him, the renewed vision, backed by the strategic direction of the Governing Board and the continued support of the NCC, will create greater opportunities for Nigerians to acquire cutting-edge digital skills needed to compete in the global economy.
“I had the honour of welcoming the newly appointed Interim Chairman of the Governing Board of the Digital Bridge Institute, Princess Oforitsenere Emiko, alongside other distinguished Board members, as we held the inaugural meeting of the Board at our headquarters in Abuja,” Daser said.
He described the inauguration of the Board as a major milestone in the Institute’s repositioning.
“This marks another significant milestone in repositioning DBI as Nigeria’s leading institution for digital skills development, research, innovation and policy leadership,” he said.
Daser expressed optimism about working with Princess Oforitsenere Emiko and other members of the Board, including Engr. Abraham Oshadami and Ms. Rimini Makama, to accelerate the Institute’s transformation agenda.
He said collaboration between the Governing Board, DBI management and the NCC would strengthen the Institute’s capacity to deliver world-class digital skills training and support Nigeria’s digital transformation objectives.
“The future is digital, and we remain committed to ensuring Nigeria is not just a participant but a leader in shaping it,” Daser said.
The DBI, established as the training and capacity-building arm of the NCC, has continued to expand programmes in digital skills development, emerging technologies, innovation and research to bridge Nigeria’s digital skills gap.
Industry observers believe the latest initiative will further strengthen Nigeria’s ambition to build a highly skilled digital workforce capable of driving innovation, attracting investment and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
